The Mount Lofty Ranges Watershed EMS Pilot project was officially launched in August 2003. The project was completed in June 2006 and the outputs of the project have been finalized.

The aim of the project was to trial the usefulness of environmental management systems (EMS) in various horticulture enterprises throughout the Mt Lofty Ranges watershed (east of Adelaide in South Australia). It was one of 15 projects being funded by the National Heritage Trust under the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's (DAFF) EMS National Pilot Program.

An EMS is an integrated approach to streamlining farm management and identifying environmental risks. It helps businesses to better understand their individual environmental priorities and provides a framework for them to address their issues in an efficient and effective manner.

This website has been developed to disseminate the many learnings from the Mt Lofty EMS project including educational materials produced and tools developed, so that farmers can continue to apply these learnings beyond the life of the project. The Mt Lofty EMS project helped participants to improve their business sustainability through better management of environmental impacts and increased production efficiency. The resources available via this website will assist farmers to achieve these same outcomes.
